The NMC has granted permission to MGM Indore

The NMC has granted permission to MGM Indore to commence DM Neurology with four seats and to augment the number of PG Ophthalmology seats by three.

In Indore, there is uplifting news for postgraduate medical aspirants in Madhya Pradesh, as the National Medical Commission has approved Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College to initiate a super-specialty course in neurology.

The institute has been granted approval from the NMC for four seats in DM neurology. Additionally, the apex medical education regulatory body has authorized an increase of three postgraduate medical seats in the Ophthalmology Department at MGM Indore.

Consequently, MGM Indore now boasts a total of 10 PG Ophthalmology seats. The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC has issued a letter of permission to the Dean of MGM Medical College for both of these courses for the academic session 2024-2025.

The college has established the newly permitted Department of Neurology in the Super Specialty Hospital. As per a recent report by the Free Press Journal, the Commission has also granted permission to the medical college to renew its 250 MBBS seats. Confirming this, Dr. Sanjay Dixit, the Dean of the Institute, informed FPJ, "We have received a letter of permission from the NMC based on the report submitted by the assessor, who inspected the college a few days ago.

The apex regulatory body has asked us to submit the required documents, including details of faculty members, staff, equipment, and other particulars." Dr. Dixit highlighted that MGM Medical College is the sole medical college in Central India with more PG medical seats than UG medical seats. As per reports, there are currently 250 UG and 279 PG seats available at MGM Indore. Additionally, the college offers 10 super-specialty seats. The college administration anticipates a further increase in PG seats in some more specialties. However, inspections are pending for retaining seats in certain departments.

Formerly known as King Edward Medical School, MGM Medical College, Indore, is one of the oldest medical colleges in India. The college has been offering MBBS courses since 1948, with PG medical courses introduced in 1953.

Presently, the medical college provides undergraduate medical education in approximately 250 MBBS seats. Over the last two years, more than 140 PG medical seats have been added to the college across several departments, including obstetrics and gynecology, pathology, general medicine, and anatomy. Last year alone, the NMC granted permission to the medical college to increase 21 PG medical seats in general medicine.
