The Supreme Court will resume hearing the NEET PG case tomorrow. Petitioners have raised concerns regarding the transparency of the results and the normalization process utilized by the National Board of Examinations for Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The petition, submitted on September 7, was initially heard on September 13.
A three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and including Justices Manoj Misra and JB Pardiwala, discussed the normalization of marks, answer keys, and results from the medical entrance exam during a hearing on September 20.
In the first hearing, petitioners requested the NBE release the NEET PG answer key, response sheets, raw and pre-normalized scores, and normalized results for all exam shifts. They also urged the court to make the release of answer keys and question papers a standard practice to ensure greater transparency. Furthermore, they requested that the court suspend the counseling process until these concerns are addressed.
This year, NEET PG was conducted in two shifts instead of the usual single-shift format. The exam took place on August 11, with the first shift running from 9 AM to 12:30 PM and the second from 3:30 PM to 7 PM. Due to this new system, the Board needed to implement a normalization process.
According to an official NBEMS notice, “NBEMS has adopted the process currently used by AIIMS New Delhi for various examinations conducted in multiple shifts, including INI-CET, to prepare results for NEET PG 2024.”
