NMC Notifies New PG Medical Courses, Increases Intake

New Delhi: The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) recently announced its final decision on 143 applications from 28 medical institutes. These applications pertain to the introduction of new postgraduate medical courses and the increase of PG medical seats in existing courses for the academic year 2024-2025. Out of the 143 applications, 107 were for starting new PG medical courses, and 36 were for increasing seats in existing PG medical courses. The NMC communicated its final decision on these applications to the respective medical institutes via email for necessary action within the stipulated timeline.

In a notice issued on May 30, 2024, the NMC MARB stated, "Following MARB's Public Notice dated April 28, 2024, regarding applications from medical institutions for starting or increasing PG medical courses or seats, the final decision on 143 applications (for starting new PG medical courses and increasing seats in PG medical courses for the academic year 2024–25) has been communicated through email IDs (as mentioned in the online applications) to the concerned medical institutions and colleges for their information and necessary action within the stipulated timeline."

"A list containing the application numbers of each of the 143 applications (107 for starting new PG medical courses and 36 for increasing seats in existing PG medical courses) is attached to this public notice for general information," the notice further mentioned.

Medical Dialogues previously reported that in a notice dated April 28, 2024, the NMC sent its final decision to 18 medical colleges regarding 101 applications for starting new PG medical courses and increasing seats for the academic year 2024-2025. At that time, the Commission indicated that communications regarding the remaining applications would be sent in due course. Again, on May 4, 2024, the NMC issued another notice and communicated its final decision to 31 medical institutes concerning 153 applications.

Referring to these earlier communications, the Apex Medical Commission stated in the notice dated May 30, 2024, "It may be recalled that via MARB’s public notice dated April 28, 2024, and May 4, 2024, it was informed that the final decision regarding 608 online PG medical course applications (436 for starting new PG medical courses and 172 for increasing seats in existing PG medical courses) had already been communicated through the email IDs mentioned in the online applications to the concerned medical institutions and colleges. The final decision regarding the remaining applications received online will be sent in due course. This is issued with the approval of the Competent Authority," it added.
