Notification:
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has mandated that all rounds of counselling for postgraduate medical seats must be conducted online by the designated state or central counselling authorities.
The Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) issued a press release emphasizing that any student admitted against these regulations will be removed from the course, and the institution may face a reduction of twice the number of seats for one or more years.
These requirements are specified under the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations (PGMER) 2023. The NMC's recent press release highlighted key features of PGMER 2023, noting:
- Admission to PG courses will proceed through counselling based on the NEET PG merit list, managed by a government agency.
- All rounds of counselling for all seats will take place online under the state or central government counselling authority; medical colleges or institutions are prohibited from admitting candidates independently.
- Any student admitted against these regulations will face discharge, and the institution will lose double the number of seats for one or more years.
- All authorized PG seats in a medical college or institute are deemed recognized for registering additional qualifications.
The NMC also noted that the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has published the 2024 NEET PG counselling schedule, which MCC, DGHS, and State PG Counselling agencies will oversee in their respective states.
In its statement, the NMC urged all stakeholders to review the PGMER-2023 regulations and check the number of PG seats allocated to each medical college or institute on the NMC website before finalizing PG admissions.
Referring to the press release issued by the PGMEB, the NMC Secretary issued a public notice on November 8, 2024, which states, “Reference is cited to the press release dated 08-11-2024 issued by the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) regarding NEET PG-2024 counselling. All concerned stakeholders are requested to kindly take note of the same.”
