New Delhi: Recognizing challenges faced by states in awarding incentive marks to in-service candidates due to changes in the NEET PG exam pattern this year, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has authorized the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to allow states to create state-specific ranks for NEET PG Counselling 2024, applicable solely to state quota seats.
NMC noted, "Several states are implementing state-specific incentives for in-service candidates who worked in rural and difficult areas, as per state reservation policies. In previous years, these states added incentive marks to the scores provided by NBEMS to generate state-specific ranks. However, due to the revised exam pattern this year, states are encountering difficulties in awarding these incentives as they had before."
To avoid delays in NEET PG counseling, the NMC decided to align with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's directive dated October 21, 2024. NMC has thus permitted NBEMS to facilitate state counselling authorities in establishing state-specific ranks, used exclusively for the state quota in NEET PG Counselling 2024, following approval from the competent authority.
United Doctors Front Association (UDFA) President Dr. Lakshya Mittal shared his gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), thanking the Union Health Ministry for recognizing the association's representation concerning NEET PG counseling. He added, "The bottleneck has been resolved, and we anticipate counseling to begin shortly, hoping for positive outcomes for all aspirants."
Activist Dr. Rohan Krishnan, a Patron of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), also shared the NMC letter on X, confirming, "NEETPG2024Counselling WILL START FROM NEXT WEEK!"
