NEET PG 2024 : NBEMS Introduces Normalization Process for Multi-Shift Exam

For the first time, the NEET PG 2024 exam is being conducted in two shifts, which necessitated the introduction of a normalization process by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The exam is scheduled for August 11, with the first shift running from 9 am to 12:30 pm and the second from 3:30 pm to 7 pm.

NBEMS has adopted a normalization process similar to the one used by AIIMS-New Delhi for multi-shift exams, such as the INI-CET. The results for each shift will be calculated based on raw scores and percentages, with percentiles (up to 7 decimal places) used to rank candidates.

In cases where multiple candidates achieve the same percentile, tie-breaking will be done based on age, with older candidates being ranked higher. All candidates will be randomly assigned to different shifts to ensure an unbiased distribution, minimizing any potential for bias due to the large number of examinees spread across the country.

The overall merit list and ranking will be determined by the percentile scores of the raw scores, ensuring fairness and accuracy in the final results.

This normalization process is crucial for maintaining the integrity and fairness of the NEET PG 2024 exam, given that it’s the first time the test is being conducted in two different shifts. By using this method, NBEMS aims to ensure that the varying difficulty levels of the exam in each shift do not disadvantage any group of candidates.

The percentile scores will be merged across all shifts to create a single, comprehensive merit list. This approach allows for an equitable comparison of scores across different shifts, ensuring that every candidate is ranked according to their performance relative to the overall pool of test-takers.

The introduction of the normalization process reflects NBEMS's commitment to upholding the standards of the NEET PG exam, especially as it adapts to new formats. This move is expected to enhance the credibility and transparency of the examination process, ultimately benefiting the thousands of aspiring medical professionals who take the NEET PG each year.
