Bihar: Following Madhya Pradesh's lead, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JLNMC) in Patna will introduce an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) course in Hindi. Senior officials and the Health Minister in Patna recently made this decision during a meeting, and the implementation will begin with the new session starting in September 2024-25.
To prepare for this transition, a team visited Madhya Pradesh to study their arrangements for the MBBS course in Hindi. They spent a week interacting with principals, professors, and students at the medical colleges. Based on their observations, they created a presentation and shared it with senior officers, principals, and superintendents. After reviewing the presentation, JLNMC decided to proceed with the MBBS course in Hindi.
During the meeting, the team showcased samples of MBBS Hindi textbooks. They asked the principals and superintendents if they had any difficulty understanding the technical medical terminology. Upon review, the principals and superintendents found the content precise and written in simple language, ensuring easy comprehension.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Superintendent of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, spoke to Jagran about forming a team to arrange education through the Hindi medium. "With the NEET results announced, it is likely that MBBS admissions will start in September. Classes and textbooks for new students will be in Hindi, solving the problem for students who are weak in English," he said.
Students and professors at JLNMC believe that teaching MBBS in Hindi will enhance understanding and improve course presentation. This change will also address the issues faced by students who have studied through the Hindi medium.
