"The Prime Minister wanted 3,000 hospitals in Tier 3 towns with 100 beds, but this has not happened. So, we want the government to incentivize the private sector with cheaper electricity, cheaper land, affordable loans, and single-window clearances to establish these hospitals."
New Delhi: The healthcare industry demanded incentives and increased allocations for the sector in the upcoming budget. In a pre-Budget meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, stakeholders requested incentives such as affordable financing options and cheaper land for establishing hospitals in Tier 3 cities.
"The prime minister wanted 3,000 hospitals in tier 3 towns with 100 beds, which has not happened. So, we urge the government to incentivize the private sector with cheaper electricity, cheaper land, affordable loans, and single-window clearances to facilitate the establishment of these hospitals," said Girdhar Gyani, Director General of the Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI).
Indian Red Cross Vice Chairman Anand Pandhari suggested that the government establish a cell dedicated to strengthening the implementation of the national education policy. He emphasized that implementing the NEP would enhance capacity-building in the healthcare sector.
The ninth Pre-Budget consultation, chaired by the Finance Minister, included input from experts in the health and education sectors for the upcoming General Budget 2024-2025.
Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, along with the Finance Secretary, Expenditure Secretary, Secretaries of the Department of Economic Affairs, Department of Revenue, and Ministry of Finance, also attended the pre-budget consultation meeting.
