Strengthen Healthcare and Food Safety in Hyderabad: Health Minister

On Friday, Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha reviewed plans to strengthen central medical stores, hospital pharmacies, and food safety measures. He instructed officials to complete work on the 22 newly established central medicine stores within a week.

State health department officials were directed to ensure complete information, from procuring medicines for government hospitals to delivering them to patients, is recorded online.

To improve efficiency, the minister announced the formation of ten task force teams to monitor medicine availability in government stores statewide. He also recommended conducting a workshop for pharmacists on utilizing the E-AUSHADI portal.

"The required medicines must be ordered from TGMSIDC in adequate quantities and delivered to central medical stores after procurement. Recipients should acknowledge the receipt of medicines with their signatures," the minister emphasized.

Addressing concerns about Hyderabad's food safety ranking, Food Safety Commissioner RV Karnan refuted claims that the city ranked last nationally. He explained that the cited data was from 2022 and referred to an NCRB report, which recorded 246 food adulteration cases in Hyderabad that year, as published in the "Crime in India-2022" report released in late 2023.
