Since the Election Commission of India released the schedule and dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, there has been increasing speculation about the postponement of entrance and competitive exams, such as CUET UG, NEET UG, and ICAI CA. The polls for the 2024 Lok Sabha will take place on April 19 and end on June 1. The results will be tallied on June 4.
The dates of a number of entry and competitive tests coincide with this year's Lok Sabha elections. The CUET-UG exams are scheduled to take place from May 15 to May 31. Two of these exam dates, which are May 20 and 25, also coincide with election dates. The May 5 (Sunday) NEET UG 2024 exam is another exam that will take place during election season.
Will the Lok Sabha Polls cause the exams to be postponed?
In response to questions regarding the CUET UG exams, UGC Chairman M Jagadesh stated that the UG exams will take place on time. The chairman wrote on X, saying, "As previously reported, NTA will conduct CUET-UG between May 15 and May 31, 2024. There are two dates in this timeframe that coincide with the May 20 and 25 election dates. Following the March 26, 2024, application deadline, we will be able to determine the total number of students enrolled in CUET-UG as well as their regional distribution. Between May 15 and May 31, NTA will provide the CUET-UG date sheet based on this information and the election dates."
Regarding the NEET UG exams, there will be no postponement of the exams set for May 5th, according to reports. The Indian Express was also informed by NTA that "JEE Main session 2 and NEET will be as per schedule." The dates of the JEE Main Session 2 exams are set for April 1–15, which is before the Lok Sabha Elections.
