Pondicherry University MBBS Exams Postponed Due to Paper Leak

Medical students face uncertainty as Pondicherry University has postponed the first-year MBBS exams due to a question paper leak. Originally scheduled to start last week, the university has yet to announce a revised schedule.

This postponement impacts students from over a dozen government and private medical colleges affiliated with the university in Puducherry and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Students arrived at their exam halls on Friday morning only to find the exams postponed. The decision followed a tip-off from faculty members at a private medical college regarding the leak, as reported by the Times of India.

The assistant registrar (medical) issued a circular to the deans and directors of the affiliated colleges, notifying them of the postponement but not specifying the reason. The announcement read as follows: "Due to administrative exigencies, the examinations for the MBBS course slated for the August 2024 session have been postponed. The revised schedule will be intimated shortly. This may be brought to the notice of the students concerned."

A university official, speaking anonymously, indicated that the examination wing has been plagued by administrative issues, leading to delays and scheduling problems. "It takes a lazy approach to planning, administering tests, and timely announcement of results. It failed to announce UG results on a few instances, he continued, even beyond the deadline for applying to postgraduate programs.

This incident follows the controversy surrounding the NEET UG 2024 exam, which also faced a paper leak scandal. Earlier reports from Medical Dialogues indicated that 13 people, including four examinees and their family members, were arrested in Bihar for their involvement in the NEET-UG paper leak. According to Patna police sources, some twenty candidates received the NEET-UG question papers and answers the day before the exam on May 5, 2024.
