NMC Extends PG Medical Applications Deadline Post Karnataka HC Order

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has extended the deadline for applications to start new postgraduate medical courses, establish standalone PG institutes, and increase seats in existing courses for the academic year 2025-2026.

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) issued a public notice announcing the extension, moving the deadline to 6 PM, December 26, 2024. Initially, the last date was October 17, 2024, but it was repeatedly extended to November 8, 2024, and December 10, 2024.

This decision follows a Karnataka High Court directive issued after Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College, Kalaburagi, faced difficulties uploading information for nine departments, risking the loss of 29 PG seats. Adopting a "justice-oriented approach," the court instructed NMC to reopen its portal for the college to submit the required details.

NMC's Action

In response to the court's order, MARB decided to extend the deadline further. The Commission informed medical institutions across India through an official letter.

The notice stated that applications for new PG courses, standalone PG institutes, or seat increases must comply with earlier conditions outlined in the September 18, 2024, public notice.

Application Guidelines

Institutes are required to upload the following documents in PDF format:

  1. Valid Essentiality Certificate (EC): As per the prescribed format for starting or expanding PG courses.
  2. Consent of Affiliation (CoA): Valid and in the prescribed format.
  3. Justification: Explaining the requested number of seats.

Applications will only be accepted after the online payment of the requisite fee via the link generated during the submission process.

Background

In September 2024, NMC had invited applications via its web portal for the academic year 2025-2026. The recent extension provides institutions more time to comply with requirements and address technical challenges, ensuring no eligible seats remain vacant.

Institutions are advised to utilize this extended period to complete their applications promptly.
