Notification:
Interns who pass the National Exit Test (NExT) before completing their internship will only be able to register with the state or national registration board after finishing their one-year internship.
Union Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge), Shri Prataprao Jadhav, announced today that NExT for Ayush students will take effect from the 2021-2022 batch onwards. He made this announcement during a press conference in the national capital.
Jadhav mentioned that this decision was based on the recommendations of an expert committee formed to address student concerns. The committee recommended applying NExT to students enrolled in the 2021-22 academic session under the NCISM and NCH Acts, 2020, ensuring clarity in its implementation.
NExT is mandatory for obtaining a license and enrolling in state or national registers after completing a one-year internship. The exam follows a problem-based format, including clinical case scenarios, images, and videos to assess practical skills, according to an official statement.
What is NExT?
Introduced in 2019 through the National Medical Commission Bill, NExT is a comprehensive medical postgraduate examination. It serves several purposes in the Indian medical education system. The exam will act as the qualifying test for final-year MBBS students, providing them with a license to practice medicine. Additionally, it will be the basis for merit-based admissions to postgraduate courses, ensuring deserving students have a fair opportunity to specialize in the medical field.
