Notification:
Kerala Health Minister Veena George announced that the government will provide extensive medical facilities, including cath labs, emergency medical centers, and oxygen parlors, for Sabarimala pilgrims as the annual pilgrimage season starts in mid-November.
After chairing a high-level meeting, she emphasized that Konni Medical College in Pathanamthitta district, home to the Lord Ayyappa shrine, will function as a base hospital equipped with the necessary medical services.
The minister confirmed that Pathanamthitta General Hospital will offer emergency cardiology treatment and cath lab facilities. She also mentioned that specialists from the Health and Medical Education Departments will serve pilgrims during the pilgrimage season. The government will also set up dispensaries with expert facilities at key locations, including Sannidhanam (the temple complex), Pamba, and Nilakkal.
Hospitals in Pamba and Nilakkal will begin operations on November 1, while other facilities will become operational on November 15. These hospitals will have defibrillators, ventilators, and cardiac monitors, along with fully operational labs at both Pamba and Nilakkal. Pamba and Sannidhanam will each have operation theaters, and over 15 hospitals will provide special treatment for pilgrims.
To further assist pilgrims, the government will establish emergency medical centers and oxygen parlors at 15 selected points along the trekking route from Pamba to Sannidhanam. It will also set up four emergency centers on the traditional forest route. The minister added that they will take measures to prevent the spread of contagious diseases in the region during the pilgrimage.
