FMGs in Haryana Await Internships, Urge NMC to Intervene

PanchkulaForeign medical graduates (FMGs) in Haryana, who have been waiting for over six months for internship seat allocations, have urged the National Medical Commission (NMC) to step in and resolve the issue. Represented by the All FMGs Association (AFA), these graduates have highlighted their plight and called for immediate action.

The AFA, which advocates for medical graduates trained abroad, criticized the inefficiency of certain state medical councils. As the apex regulatory body for medical education in India, the association emphasized that the NMC must address these persistent issues.

FMGs Express Concerns on Social Media

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the AFA shared the challenges faced by FMGs despite clearing the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE). They revealed that graduates in several states, including Haryana, face undue hardships in securing enrollment in internship programs.

The association posted a video on X showing FMGs waiting outside the Haryana Medical Council, demanding internships. Alongside the video, the AFA stated:
"Even after passing FMGE, FMGs in some states struggle to secure legitimate internship spots. This video shows graduates sitting outside the Haryana Medical Council in the cold, waiting for seats that haven’t been allocated for six months. We urge the concerned authorities to provide a solution immediately."

Growing Mental Stress and Wasted Time

The AFA further highlighted that a new batch of FMGs recently cleared the screening test, compounding the backlog and increasing mental stress among graduates. In another post, the association wrote:
"Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) in Haryana have been awaiting internships for six months, and another batch has just passed the FMGE. The Haryana Medical Council’s failure to allocate seats has caused significant mental stress and wasted valuable time. We urge @NMC_BHARAT to intervene and address these issues promptly. As the supreme medical regulatory body, the NMC must take action to resolve the inadequacies in certain state councils."

Doctors Echo the Appeal

Dr. Honey Chaudhary also brought attention to the matter on X. Dr. Chaudhary wrote:
"Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) in Haryana have been waiting six to seven months for internships. The lack of seat allocation by the Haryana Medical Council has caused immense stress and wasted time. This issue requires urgent attention."

The situation underscores the pressing need for streamlined processes and prompt action to ensure FMGs can begin their internships without undue delays.
