Notification:
Annamalai has demanded that the state release a white paper detailing medical admissions before and after NEET, amidst the ongoing controversy and Tamil Nadu's request for NEET exemption. In Salem, Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai reiterated his call for transparency, arguing that NEET benefits poorer sections of society.
Speaking to PTI, he accused the ruling DMK of politicizing the National Entrance-Eligibility Test, asserting, "We firmly believe NEET is necessary."
Highlighting ongoing issues, he acknowledged corrective actions being taken on localized NEET question papers, noting that NTA administers multiple exams. He also criticized the DMK's handling of the NEET issue.
"NEET, now a decade old, necessitates a release of data from the Directorate of Medical Education showing how many government school students have entered government medical colleges pre and post NEET," he emphasized.
He renewed his call for a CBI investigation into the recent killing of K. Armstrong, stressing the importance of identifying those responsible.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the NEET-UG exam matter next on July 18.
Regarding the NEET UG 2024 exam, controversies erupted over a paper leak scandal. Medical Dialogues reported that authorities in Bihar arrested around 13 individuals, including four examinees and their relatives, for allegedly leaking NEET-UG exam papers. Sources from Patna police claimed the papers and answers were distributed to about 20 aspirants a day before the May 5, 2024 exam.
The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police, now handling the investigation, disclosed that brokers charged between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 50 lakh per medical aspirant for leaked exam papers.
Numerous petitions have been filed in both High Courts and the Supreme Court, demanding an investigation into the paper leak scandal. Some petitions sought the cancellation of NEET UG 2024 and a retest. During proceedings, NTA rescinded grace marks for 1,563 candidates, offering them an optional retest. Candidates who opted out retained their original marks without grace points.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently probing the matter, following the Central Government's decision on June 22, 2024, to transfer the investigation into alleged irregularities in the NEET UG 2024 exam to the CBI.
Earlier, the Supreme Court declined to delay counseling or seat allotment starting July 6. However, the court noted that admissions would hinge on case outcomes, with counseling becoming void if exams were invalidated.
The Supreme Court underscored its concern over discrepancies in the NEET UG 2024 exam, pledging to rigorously scrutinize any negligence, however minimal, in conducting such a vital exam.
