Notification:
Vijayawada: Foreign medical graduates (FMGs) in Andhra Pradesh staged a peaceful and silent protest outside the State Medical Council on Tuesday, demanding solutions to the challenges they face.
The students claim that despite compensating for their online classes by returning to their parent institutes, they are still being forced to complete an additional 2-3 years of internship.

Explaining the issue, the State team of AIMSA-FMGW informed that when FMGs arrived at the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council's office, police officials prevented them from protesting. Instead, authorities allowed a five-to-ten-member team from the association to submit their representation to the APMC official.
The team submitted their representation to the assistant registrar but did not receive any assurance regarding their concerns. Frustrated by the lack of resolution, foreign medical graduates are now urging the government to intervene.
The association alleges that every time they seek a solution from the Council, officials cite reasons such as a lack of clarification from the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the absence of a chairman and board.
According to the association, NMC guidelines allocate a one-year internship to students who returned to their home countries and compensated for missed classes. However, students argue that APMC has failed to implement these guidelines, affecting over 200 FMGs. Despite complying with the NMC directives, they are still being forced to complete a 2-3 year internship, violating NMC regulations, the association claims.
Earlier, Medical Dialogues reported that foreign medical graduates in Andhra Pradesh face two major issues: delays in obtaining permanent registration and being required to complete an extended internship despite compensating for online education.
Around 150 FMGs who completed their one-year internship in May and applied for permanent registration have yet to receive it. Additionally, junior students who recently cleared FMGE have been assigned 2-3 years of internships, even though they hold compensation certificates for online classes.
The protesting students demand final registration for those who have completed a one-year internship and corrections in internship allotments for juniors who attended compensatory classes.
On Monday, AIMSA-FMGW submitted its demands to APMC, which include:
Issuing permanent registrations for FMGE December 2022 and FMGE June 2023 batches.
Implementing NMC’s notice dated 19.06.2024.
Granting registrations to students who graduated pre-COVID or completed their education entirely offline.
Recertifying and allotting internships for FMGE June 2022 pass-outs.
Publishing FMG counseling guidelines.
Issuing provisional registrations for current interns.
Ensuring fair treatment in allotment orders and permanent registrations.
Appointing an APMC Chairman and a full Board of Council members.
FMGs continue to press for immediate action, urging authorities to address their demands without further delay.
