An AIIMS Jodhpur 'MBBS' student appeared as a proxy in NEET at a Bihar center and left after writing an apology.

Patna: Authorities revealed a shocking development in the NEET paper leak controversy when they caught a 3rd-year MBBS student from AIIMS Jodhpur, paid to be a proxy for a NEET-UG examinee, during biometric attendance at a center in Bihar's Muzaffarpur just minutes before the May 5 test. Despite this, they allegedly allowed the student to leave after submitting a written apology.

A recent report detailed that authorities apprehended the third-year AIIMS-Jodhpur student during biometric attendance at the examination center in DAV School, Malighat, Bihar, for allegedly appearing in place of a NEET aspirant. The examinee's admit card displayed a picture of this student.

According to the report, the student confessed to impersonating Dr. Pandey's son, who owns a hospital in UP's Prayagraj, for Rs 4 lakh. However, authorities allegedly let the student go after he submitted a written apology. In his letter, the accused student wrote, "I come from a poor family. I was promised Rs 4 lakh, which is why I agreed to write the exam on someone else's behalf." He also mentioned meeting Dr. Pandey, who allegedly sought a proxy for his son, in Kota, Rajasthan.

The student, who acted as a proxy for the doctor's son, carried an admit card featuring the NEET aspirant's picture. Since the incident, he has been absent from college.

Station house officer (SHO) Ram Krishna Paramhans Kumar learned about the incident from an undisclosed source and registered an FIR at Mithanpura police station in Muzaffarpur on the same day. Both the student and Dr. Pandey were named in the FIR.

The report noted that the breach at the examination center in DAV School, Malighat, was never officially reported to the police. The authorities only had the accused student write an apology letter. A police official quoted an exam center representative as saying that after writing the apology, the young man was asked to wait outside while authorities decided their next steps. He allegedly sneaked out and couldn't be found.

ASP Awadhesh Dixit of Muzaffarpur told - "The center was under scrutiny for not reporting the crime immediately. The school management was apparently reluctant to pursue the case, fearing damage to the center's reputation."

"Separate teams have been sent to Prayagraj, Barmer, and Jodhpur to locate the accused. Neither of them was found at their homes or workplaces. The student who allegedly took money to act as a proxy for an examinee hasn't attended classes at AIIMS-Jodhpur since May 2," said SHO Paramhans Kumar.
