50-Bed High-Tech Ayurvedic Hospital Becomes Car Shed, Left Unused

Chikkamagaluru: A high-tech Ayurvedic hospital near the District Panchayat in Chikkamagaluru, built at a cost of ?7.5 crore, remains non-operational more than a year after its completion. Instead of serving the local community, the 50-bed facility has been turned into a parking space for officials' vehicles.

Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai laid the foundation stone for the project in 2022, and current Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated it in 2024. Despite being fully constructed, the hospital has yet to open its doors to patients. Instead of providing healthcare services, it now serves as a parking lot for government officials.

Political parties continue to shift blame for the hospital’s non-functionality. According to Hans India, both the BJP and Congress claim credit for its construction. While the BJP initiated the project, the Congress-led government held the inauguration. However, neither party has taken responsibility for ensuring the hospital operates.

Former MLA C.T. Ravi played a key role in advocating for a medical college and an Ayurvedic hospital in Chikkamagaluru. Despite support from both major political parties, the hospital remains inaccessible to the public.

The situation highlights the pressing need for improved healthcare facilities in the region. With an investment of ?7.5 crore, this 50-bed hospital could significantly benefit the local population. Public representatives, officials, and residents are now demanding immediate action to open the hospital and fulfill its intended purpose.
