16 New Medical Colleges to Add MBBS Seats in Bihar, Maharashtra

New Delhi: In a promising development for medical aspirants, authorities will open 16 new medical colleges across Bihar and Maharashtra.

Among these, officials plan to establish nine medical colleges in Bihar over the next few years, while Maharashtra will see the addition of eight new colleges. Bihar’s new institutions may take two to three years to become fully operational, though Samastipur Medical College is expected to start classes next year, followed closely by Saran Medical College.

A recent *Patrika* report states that other medical colleges in Bihar, including those in Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Siwan, and Jamui, plan to begin classes within two to three years.

This year, Maharashtra’s Central Health and Family Welfare Ministry approved eight new medical colleges with a total intake of 800 government MBBS seats. Two colleges in Mumbai and Nashik had previously gained permission to admit 50MBBS students each. New institutions will also open in Amravati, Washim, Jalna, Buldhana, Hingoli, and Bhandara.

Authorities also expect to increase MBBS seats in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh established 17 new medical colleges this year under the "One District, One Medical College" initiative. Recently, the Prime Minister virtually inaugurated five new medical colleges, including three in Madhya Pradesh, adding a total of 300 MBBS seats.

Earlier this year, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for more domestic medical education opportunities to prevent middle-class students from going abroad. On Independence Day, he announced plans to add 75,000 more medical seats across the country over the next five years.
