Gujarat MBBS Graduates Request Postponement of Bond Service to Accommodate NEET PG 2024 Exam

AHMEDABAD: Over 1,100 MBBS graduates in Gujarat are dealing with a tough situation due to the state health department's directive to make rent in government hospitals in rural and urban areas compulsory for one year. This predicament arises as these students are preparing for the National Eligibility Entrance Test Post Graduate (NEET-PG) 2024 scheduled on 11 August.

On completion of the internship, these graduates are required to complete one year bond service in government hospitals as prescribed at the time of admission to MBBS. However, this obligation conflicts with their preparation for the NEET-PG exam, which falls on August 11. According to recent reports from the Times of India, the students, who are preparing extensively for the postgraduate entrance test, face the risk of not being able to start their bond duty. The rules prohibit them from interrupting their mandatory service once it begins.

Moreover, if the students pass the NEET-PG exam, they must either secure their postgraduate medical admission or forfeit their seats. Sources informed the Daily that students are requesting a postponed reporting period after August 15, to accommodate their NEET-PG preparations.

Meanwhile, the National Examination Board for Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is likely to release the city participation data for the NEET-PG exam today, July 29, 2024. Candidates will get this data through them registered email ID, and will no longer be available on the official exam website.
