Notification:
Mumbai University is teaming up with local hospitals to create artificial intelligence (AI) models aimed at improving early disease detection and management, particularly for conditions affecting women. The initiative, which includes collaborations with Tata Memorial Hospital and Nanavati Hospital, seeks to reduce disease burden and enhance screening rates.
The university's project will leverage patient case studies from these hospitals to develop AI solutions. For example, AI models will analyze factors influencing conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), including stress, lifestyle, and diet, to enable early detection and preventive measures.
The project, initially funded under the PM-USHA scheme, is seeking additional support from government agencies and industry. Future plans include using AI for early detection of cancers and tuberculosis and studying disease outbreak patterns to improve health infrastructure and medication distribution.
The center currently utilizes global open-source data and aims to partner with additional hospitals to enrich local and region-specific data, according to Kazi. Additionally, the university plans to collaborate with IIT-Bombay, which is pursuing similar goals. Recently, Mumbai University also signed MoUs with Purdue University and Saint Louis University for this project.
