Chhattisgarh to Introduce MBBS in Hindi from the Current Academic Year

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai revealed that the state will begin offering the MBBS course in Hindi starting with the current academic year. This announcement coincided with the celebration of ‘Hindi Diwas,’ observed on September 14 to mark the 1949 decision of the Constituent Assembly to make Hindi, in the Devanagari script, the official language of India.

Sai shared his government’s pride in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, which he articulated during a 2022 rally in Uttar Pradesh, to introduce medical education in Hindi.

Our government has made a significant move on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. The MBA course will now also be taught in Hindi. Starting from this session (2024-25), first-year books in Hindi will be introduced. The health department has been directed to ensure the availability of books and study materials,” Sai informed reporters.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to revamp the education system, replacing the old Macaulay imperialist education model. Sai also noted that the state has fully embraced the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

He underscored that this change will especially benefit students from rural areas, many of whom come from Hindi-medium schools and face challenges with medical education due to the prevalence of English. “Learning in Hindi will help solidify their basic knowledge, foster a deeper understanding of the material, and ultimately enable them to become competent doctors,” Sai emphasized.
