Notification:
Visakhapatnam: NMC has rejected the proposed medical colleges in Markapur, Madanapalle, Adoni, Paderu, and Pulivendula of Andhra Pradesh due to several deficits.
Among the issues NMC identified was the utilization of funds. Only 22% of the total sanctioned cost for completing work at these five medical colleges has been spent. Visakhapatnam: NMC has not accredit the proposed medical colleges in Markapur, Madanapalle, Adoni, Paderu, and Pulivendula of AP on account of certain depreciable factors.
Also, out of Rs 629 crore that spent for these five medical colleges, payments of approximately Rs 188 crore are outstanding since July 2023. These are some of the prompt payments which freelancers do not wish to proceed with construction work.
Medical Dialogues had earlier published that Andhra Pradesh is aiming at opening the five new government medical colleges, Pulivendula, Paderu, Markapuram, Adoni, and Madanapalle and each college having a proposition of 150 MBBS seats.
After the State applied for NMC's approval for these proposed medical colleges, a high-level committee from the Apex Medical Commission inspected these institutes on June 25 and submitted its report to the Commission.
The inspection committees expressed dissatisfaction with the poor infrastructure at Adoni and Markapuram medical colleges and suggested improvements at the medical colleges in Paderu and Madanapalle.
According to the latest media report by the Times of India, NMC denied permission for these five new medical colleges for the academic year 2024-2025. The Commission cited several deficiencies, including the underutilization of the sanctioned funds for completing the construction work.
For example, in the case of Madanapalle College, while Rs 475 crore was sanctioned, only Rs 30 crore, or 6% of the approved cost, has been spent. Similarly, only 10% of the sanctioned costs were spent for Markapur and Adoni Medical Colleges.
