India-Wide Parents Association Urges Authorities Against UGC NET June Session Re-Exam

The National Testing Agency (NTA), the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the Ministry of Education have all received letters from the India-Wide Parents Association (IWPA) requesting a review of the June 18 UGC NET session nationwide.

The Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor eligibility test at Indian universities is called UGC-NET.

In the letter, the union urged the authorities to release the UGC NET results by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which found that no papers were leaked. They argued that repeating the exam would be unfair and would hurt hundreds of thousands of candidates who had already passed the exam without any unfair means.

"The aspirants who have cleared the exam did so fairly, as confirmed by the CBI's investigation which found no evidence of a leak. The recent decision by the government not to cancel the NEET UG exam despite localized leaks sets a precedent. Such decisions are causing significant mental and physical distress to lakhs of students," the letter stated.

The CBI investigation into the alleged UGC-NET paper leak revealed that the evidence prompting the Ministry of Education to cancel the exam immediately after it was conducted on June 18 across 317 cities was manipulated, according to government sources cited by The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is contemplating reverting to its traditional in-house entrance examinations for PhD admissions, potentially ending its partnership with the National Testing Agency (NTA) for conducting the exam. Sources from the university confirmed to The Indian Express that a final decision is expected within 8 weeks.
