Goa Medical College now offers 200 MBBS seats

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the increase in MBBS seats to 200 at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for the academic year 2024-25.

In a media statement, Rane highlighted that increasing the number of MBBS seats from 150 to 200 marks a significant milestone in the institution’s journey to provide quality medical education and healthcare services. "For the academic year 2024-2025, we have received the Letter of Permission from the National Medical Commission, approving an increase in our MBBS seats to 200,” he said.

This expansion represents a crucial step in enhancing the institution's capacity, enabling more students to pursue their dreams of becoming skilled medical professionals, the minister added.

Rane also informed me that the approval extended to several postgraduate MD/MS courses. The MD (radiodiagnosis) seats have increased from six to seven, MS (general surgery) from six to 15, MS (obstetrics and gynecology) from six to eight, MD (pharmacology) from four to six, and MD (pediatrics) from seven to ten.

Rane emphasized that the increase in seat capacity underscores the government’s dedication to fostering medical excellence and addressing the region's growing healthcare demands. “Goa Medical College remains committed to nurturing the next generation of medical professionals while delivering top-tier medical education,” he added.
