IIT JAM 2025 stands for India Institute of Technology Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. programmes. It is a national level entrance examination conducted for candidates seeking admission to M.Sc. and other PG programmes. This exam is a pathway which offers admission to 2802 seats at 20 IITs and IISc Bangalore for various programmes including M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.- Ph.D., M.Sc. PhD dual programme, integrated PhD, M.Sc MTech and M.Sc.-M. S (Research).

The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati has released the IIT JAM 2025 admit card on January 8 . Candidates have to download their admit card from the website of JAM Online Application Processing System. IIT JAM 2025 exam will be conducted in two sessions. IIT Guwahati is going to conduct IIT JAM 2025 for Chemistry, Geology, and Mathematics papers, in the forenoon session Physics, Mathematical Statistics, Biotechnology, and Economics papers in the afternoon session.

IIT JAM 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Those wishing to appear in IIT JAM 2025 will have to fulfil the eligibility criteria given below:

  • Nationality: Citizens from Indian states and foreign nationals.
  • Age Limit: There is no age restriction.

Educational Qualifications

Must have a degree in Bachelor’s in Science in any one of the following subjects – Geology, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, Physics, Chemistry. Final year candidates are also eligible to apply. Minimum Marks: No minimum marks requirement to apply for IIT JAM 2025. Proof of having passed the Qualifying Degree with the Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) as specified by the Admitting Institute should be submitted by September, 2024.

IIT JAM 2025 EXAM PATTERN

It is an online based exam for a duration of 3 hours. IIT JAM 2025 will be conducted for seven papers mentioned below.

  • Biotechnology (BT)
  • Chemistry (CY)
  • Geology (GG)
  • Mathematics (MA)
  • Mathematical Sciences (MS)
  • Physics (PH)
  • Economics

The entire syllabus is that of undergraduate level. The test papers will have three Objective types of Questions:

30- Multiple choice Question (MCQ): only one among the given options will be correct
10-Multiple Select Questions (MSQ): more than one correct answer will be there for a question. In IIT-JAM, there is no negative marking or partial marking if all the correct answers are not marked.
20-Numerical Answer Questions (NAQ): NAQ are the ones whose answer will be in numbers and no option is given in these questions. NAT Questions will carry either one or two marks each. No choices are given for these types of questions.

IIT JAM 2025 Marking Scheme

As per last year’s mark’s weightage for some subjects, the 65 questions were divided into:

30 1-mark questions
20 2-mark questions
  • For 1-mark MCQs – 1/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • For 2-mark MCQs – 2/3 mark will be reduced.
  • Zero marks are to be awarded for unattempted questions.

However, there will be no negative marking for Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

IIT JAM 2025 Exam Day Guidline

  • Carrying IIT JAM 2025 Admit Card along with a valid ID proof to the exam centre is mandatory.
  • Candidates reaching late at the exam centre will not be allowed to enter the exam centre.
  • No need to carry any notepads or rough sheets to the exam centre. Candidates will be given a scribble pad for rough work.
  • Communication devices like Mobile Phones, Bluetooth, microphones, etc are not allowed.
  • Items like Wallet, Goggles, Handbags, Belt, Cap, etc are also not allowed.
  • Food items opened or packed, water bottles, etc are not allowed inside the exam centre.
  • The code of the test paper, question paper, and the response for the paper for which you have appeared will appear on your screen.
  • Check carefully and download the same in PDF format.

IIT JAM 2025 Syllabus

No new additions have been made to IIT JAM 2025 paper pattern and syllabus in the past years. IIT JAM is set on a 10+2+3 level and comprises the following subject’s topics & chapters:

IIT JAM 2025 Mock test

IIT Guwahati has released IIT JAM 2025 mock test window for all 7 subjects. Candidates can very easily access the mock tests on the website www.jam.iitg.ac.in. With the help of IIT JAM 2023 Mock Test applicants can get familiar with the online exam pattern and prepare for the actual exam.
The exam is going to be conducted on February 12 in over 100 cities across India.

IIT JAM 2025 Result

IIT JAM 2025 Result will be declared tentatively in the month of March 2025. Candidates who have qualified for this exam can download their scorecards (indicating the All-India Rank(s) and the mark(s) obtained by the candidate) from the JOAPS website. After result declaration, merit list and cut off marks are released. In some cases where two or more candidates get similar marks, the exam conducting authority has to use the rank-based tie-breaking criterion.

  1. The candidate who has a higher ratio of positive marks to negative marks will get a higher rank.
  2. But if this scheme fails to break the tie, the same ranks would be awarded to the candidates.

The Rank List is issued for all seven subjects separately and the number of candidates in this list depends on the total number of IIT-JAM Seats.

IIT JAM 2025 Candidates who qualify can apply only for that particular academic year of the Postgraduate courses. The marks will not be re-considered in the upcoming academic years. Upon applying, offers will be made to the students on the basis of their merit, candidate’s choice and number of seats in the institute. Those candidates have to meet the eligibility requirements and minimum qualifications required by the admitting institute. These criterias are decided by the institute itself.
