BNYS stands for Bachelors of Naturopathy and Yogic sciences. It is an undergraduate level medical course. This course duration is 5.5 years which includes 1 year of compulsory rotatory internship in various departments.
What is Naturopathy and Yoga?
Naturopathy is a field of healthcare that chooses a holistic approach towards treating ailments and chronic illness. Naturopathy uses body's immune system to treat the disease. This does not use any type of medicine or drugs in its treatment. Thus, it is generally non-invasive. Yoga is a field of healthcare that focuses on mind-body connection, breathing techniques, asanas and meditation for the betterment of the human. Yoga generally doesn't focus on one specific disease whereas it focuses on human body as a whole.
BNYS Admissions
For admission into colleges offering BNYS, students have to give various competitive exams. These colleges are categorized into government, semi government, private and public private partnership. The seats in these colleges are divided into All India Quota seats (15%) and State Quota seats (85%).

BNYS Entrance Exams
- NEET-UG: The entrance exam to all the medical college is though NEET-UG which is conducted annually in the month of May in offline mode. For more information about the exam refer to NEET-UG overview.
- CEEAH: It stands for Common Entrance Examination for Ayurveda and Homeopathy, which is conducted in the month of August.
- DSRRAU: DR. Sarvepalli Radhakrishna Rajasthan Ayurveda University conducts entrance exam for BNYS course in the month of July.
BNYS Exam Pattern
- It is a Multiple-Choice Question based exam which is conducted in offline mode.
- The question paper comprises of total 200 questions out of which students have to attempt 180 questions of their own choice.
- There are 3 main subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) which are further divided into sections.
The marking scheme is +4 for correct answers and -1 for incorrect answers.
BNYS Eligibility
- The minimum age of applicant must be 17 years as of 31 December 2023.
- The upper limit is 25 years as on May 5 with an exemption of 5 years for SC/ST/OBC.
- Applicant must have pursued Physics, Chemistry, Biology as their subjects in 12 and passed with 50% in each subject.
- Applicant must have completed their 12th or will be completing 12th by 2023 from a recognized board or open school.
- Applicants must be a citizen of India, Non-Resident of India, Person of Indian Origin or Foreign National.
- The admissions are given on the basis of merit and the cutoff decided for that particular year.

After these 4 years, students have to serve as intern in various departments such as geriatrics, paediatrics, gynaecology, musculoskeletal, neurology etc, to complete the graduation and get approved by the UNANI council.
Scope after BNYS
- Naturopathic doctors: graduates can practice as doctors in any government/private clinics and treat patients.
- Yoga therapist: Graduates can become a yoga instructor in any school, gym or can practice independently.
- Rehabilitation therapist: Graduates can practice in any rehabilitation centre and treat particular neurological or musculoskeletal conditions which needs extra care and support throughout the recovery.
- Higher studies: Graduates can opt for masters in Naturopathy and yogic sciences.
Courses After BNYS
- Public services: Medical graduates can also apply for public services like IAS, IPS, IFS etc.
- Public Health: Many students opt for Masters in Public Health which deals with epidemiology, Healthcare management biostatistics etc.
- MBA in Hospital Administration: the graduates who are interested in management related career opt for MBA
- PG Diploma in yoga therapy: Several universities provide pg diploma courses in Yoga and Naturopathy.
